Title : Dream of the Turban Shell(green)
- Purpose & Inspiration :
The purpose of this project was to create a clutch bag that symbolized the turban shell and expressed it's curved line with gradation rhythm. The spiral textures, colors and grains of a turban shell inspired the design. I was motivated by many different patterns, textures and colors of abalones, turban shells, scallops, etc. while enjoying shellfish foods in a sea food restaurant. This bag is the perfect matched accessory for a special unique evening dress.
- Design Process :
While most of clutch bags are flat, this work features S line bag shape with the dynamic and lovely waves of cubic grains on the surface, which is the most prominent feature of the work. In order to make the visible S line of a turban shell, the distortion was applied from the general symmetric bag pattern to create an asymmetric pattern of front and back, and the entire body connected with one single zipper.
- Techniques :
The gradation method of direct dyeing was used for a turban shell color with brown tone, from dark brown to light brown, to bring the natural image of a turban shell. Thick fusible was attached inside of the lining for a voluminous effect. The surface was decorated with 1/8'' several tucks arranged at irregular intervals to reproduce the dynamic flow with lively image.
- Materials :
100% Silk organza that is dyeing well and useful in forming was used for the bag. Polyester was used for the lining.
- Date Completed: May 04, 2008, Measurements: width-6", length-8", depth-2.5"
